Anarchy Is a Vector, Not a Destination

I spent a year in anarchist circles. Every meeting ended the same way: someone got purer than thou, someone stormed out, nothing got built. The black flag was a brand, not a blueprint.

Anarchism as practiced decays into a maintenance economy. It needs the enemy state to keep its identity hot. No enemy, no heat. No heat, no movement. Same anti-X trap as every mirrored ideology. Different flag. Same engine.

But anarchism as a directional principle is the wall that holds the whole structure up.

That distinction is everything.

The Category Error

Treat anarchy as a destination and you get theatre. Treat anarchy as a gradient and you get engineering.

A destination says: no rules, ever. A gradient says: coercion carries burden of proof. Liberty is the default.

The second model is operational.

The Stack Already Exists

Our Governance Altitude Doctrine already encodes this:

  • Substrate: maximum constraint (physics, protocol, invariants)
  • Sovereign: maximum consent (the individual, no external rule without voluntary binding)
  • Middle layers: negotiated descent from law toward liberty

Stop asking “is this anarchist enough?” Ask: what part of this layer can we remove without collapse?

  • If the answer is “none,” you built Leviathan.
  • If the answer is “all,” you built a fantasy.
  • If the answer is “most,” you are near the viable frontier.

That frontier is where Libertaria lives.

The NPC Objection Is Real, and Wrongly Framed

The lazy objection: “most people can’t handle freedom.” The honest one: most people have been trained in captured Chapters without an exit primitive. Sovereignty muscle atrophied.

Use-it-or-lose-it. Governance physics.

Design environments with real exit and responsibility gradients. Capability returns. Not perfectly. Not evenly. Enough.

Regulatory Principle, Not Slogan

This is the doctrine:

Every governance layer must justify itself against the anarchic baseline at its altitude, or be stripped.

That gives you a ruthless test for RFCs, charters, bonds, and institutions:

  1. What coercion exists?
  2. Why is it necessary here?
  3. What minimal version still preserves function?
  4. What is the explicit exit path?

No exit. No legitimacy.
